7 Healthy Daily Habits Before 7 AM

How many times have you tried to imitate successful people’s morning routines and rituals, only to find yourself failing miserably?

Trust me, I’ve been there too.

I’d need more fingers to count all my past attempts.

And yet, here I am, talking about seven powerful daily habits to transform your life—all before 7 a.m.

It’s true, after a lifelong habit of hitting the snooze button for “just 5 more minutes,” I finally became a morning person.

And it happened—quite literally—overnight!

The crazy thing is, there isn’t a secret trick to becoming a morning person.

For me, it all started with money worries that kept me awake at night, mulling over ways to make more money and find opportunities to escape the crushing debt that felt like a life sentence.

Unable to sleep, I decided one night to ditch the idea of trying to force myself to slumber.

Instead, I got out of bed, fired up my laptop, and crafted a plan to dig myself out of my pitiful hole.

That’s when I created my first budget.

I thought it was a temporary thing.

But it went on for a few days.

That’s when I noticed I got lots of things done.

My brain was far more refreshed in the morning, more focused, and more productive.

Maybe it was desperation.

But whether you’re desperately seeking a better life or simply wanting to improve your current situation, adopting these daily habits will set you on the right path.

Morning is Our Time

I wholeheartedly believe in the popular view held by successful people:

The morning is our time.

For many of us, the morning is the only chance we have to nurture our body and mind before being yanked into the whirlwind of daily demands and responsibilities.

It’s the perfect time to tackle the things that truly matter to us, setting the stage for a successful day.

If you win the morning, you win the day.

With that in mind, let me share the first of seven healthy daily habits you should establish before 7 a.m. to kick-start your day and your life.

#1 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Make Your Bed

When I first heard about “making your bed” as a life-changing habit, I’ll admit it—I laughed.

Just like the students in the audience of the video that inspired me, I found the idea amusing.

To be honest, I even snorted (how rude, right?).

But then it hit me:

If you can’t handle the small things in life, how can you expect to tackle the big challenges? After all, how you do anything is how you do everything, right?

Making my bed each morning has become a sacred ritual.

I give it my full attention, treating it as if it’s the most important thing to do.

It’s almost therapeutic!

And, as Navy Seal William McRaven says,

If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.

#2 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Drink Warm Water

One of the best things I’ve ever done for my health was learning to enjoy drinking warm water.

It’s helped me cut down on my excessive coffee intake—once up to six cups a day—bringing my caffeine addiction under control.

If you’re not a fan of plain water, try adding some lime or lemon.

The point is, our bodies work hard throughout the night, leading to dehydration in the morning.

Drinking warm water not only warms up your body, but it also helps you stay hydrated and keeps your digestive system running smoothly.

Since I started this habit, I’ve felt so much healthier and happier, as my body naturally and regularly gets rid of toxins.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m having a love affair with my toilet, but there’s no more “wartime” in the morning (um, TMI, sorry!).

#3 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Make a To-Do List

Keep a Daily To-Do Planner notepad next to your bed, or use your phone or tablet.

Create your To-Do list as soon as you wake up.

Sometimes, I even make my list the night before and re-read it in the morning, making any necessary adjustments.

Label each task with a number on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 represents a low-value activity and 10 signifies the most important task on your list.

Tackle the most important tasks first to get closer to your overall goal.

For me, writing and publishing a blog post (a 10) is more crucial to my success than reading about writing well (a 5).

Your to-do list will determine how productive your day will be.

#4 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Make a Gratitude List

Despite living in one of the richest countries in the world, it’s easy to find people complaining about their lives.

But when we witness the suffering of others in war-torn zones or areas struck by natural disasters, it’s a stark reminder that no matter how bad our situation may seem, it could always be worse.

Starting your day with a gratitude list can help shift your mindset from dwelling on past mistakes to focusing on problem-solving.

Cultivate a positive mindset and attitude by practicing gratitude exercises every morning.

Trust me, there’s so much in your life to be truly grateful for!

#5 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Make a List of Ideas

Whether you’re searching for side hustle ideas, self-improvement strategies, blog topics, or ways to make extra money to pay off debt, our memories can be fleeting throughout the day.

Ideas appear and vanish quickly, so make it a habit to jot down your thoughts as they come.

Aim for at least 10 ideas a day.

This exercise provides clarity and guidance throughout your day.

#6 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Move: Exercise or Walk

Our increasingly sedentary lifestyles pose a danger to our health, yet we often spend hours sitting while watching TV, playing video games, reading, working on a project, or eating.

Give your body the attention it deserves before getting caught up in daily life.

You can choose vigorous exercise, light stretching, or strength training, or simply go for a walk.

I start my day with light stretching and a few rounds of squats, push-ups, and sit-ups.

#7 of 7 Life-Transforming Daily Habits: Eat Breakfast

Oprah Winfrey once said,

No one would ever mistake me for an expert on engines, but I know one thing: they don’t work without fuel.

The same applies to our bodies.

Starting the day with the right fuel can significantly improve focus and productivity.

Give your body the nutrients it needs to serve your mind to its maximum capacity.

Final Thoughts: Win Your Day, Win Your Life

When you incorporate these habits into your morning routine, you’ll not only win your morning but also your entire day.

As Annie Dillard said,

How you live your day is how you live your life.

Embrace these seven life-transforming daily habits before 7 a.m. and set yourself up for a lifetime of success.
