These wonderful happiness quotes remind us what’s important in life: things we’ve known all along.
We often forget them because a little thing called life gets in the way.
Or life troubles like debt are drowning us at times.
Let’s chew each word for a moment: be captivated and reflective.
Different quotes will resonate with you for different reasons.

Because… well, why not, right?
Let’s spread happiness.
Let’s start with my favourite of all…
Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”
– Oscar Wilde
Are you happy being yourself?
I suffered from comparison syndrome for a long time.
If you think about it, we’re all heading in one direction. Where we go, we can’t take anything with us.
Where then did all this obsession of competing come from, trying to better one another, imitating others or living someone else’s life?
True happiness comes from embracing ourselves and be true to ourselves.
As soon as we wish to be happier, we are no longer happy.”
– Walter Landon
Have you ever googled “happiness test?”
I did. Ha!
I stopped myself before taking the test though.
I realised I was being silly.
The fact that I did look for a test said it all: I was unhappy.
That was a few years ago when I hit rock bottom.
For some reason, this quote reminds me of those awful time.
Thank goodness, it’s in the past.
Happiness consists of each day as if it were the first day of your honeymoon and the last day of your vacation.
– Leo Tolstoy
Woohoo, you’ve got to tell me the sentiment of honeymoon in context here.
I have no idea what it means. poor-me. ha.
Does it ring true?
You tell me.
The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance. The wise grows it under his feet.
– James Oppenheim
Sometime after I had googled “happiness test”, I had an epiphany that happiness was indeed right where I was.
When I started writing down a gratitude list, I felt ashamed not to realise it sooner and appreciate more.
Sure, I still have debt which was the major cause of my grief.
But debt didn’t take away all the good things I already have.
Seriously, I had so ungrateful soul!
I’m now enjoying everyday life.
Gone the miserable day!
There is little success where there is little laughter.”
– Andrew Carnegie
Not surprisingly, Researchers found two-thirds of 5,000 Americans ranked family as a source of satisfaction and fulfilment in life.
Think about recent family gatherings of your own.
Waves of laughter you shared.
Now imagine life without that precious laughter.
How empty would it be?
Things turn out best for people who make the best of the way things turn out.
– John Wooden
No matter how bad things are, I learned to say:
Things could be worse.
When we react positively to any given situation, our mind remains open to possibilities.
We become resourceful.
And find a way!
If you wait for your whole life waiting for the storm, you will never enjoy the sunshine.
– Morris West
Because of your smile, you make life more beautiful.
Thich Nhat Hanh
I often ask myself:
Are you happy because you sing or do you sing because you are happy?
If you suffer from anxiety or feeling low, sing your favourite song.
It’s one of the best ways to brighten your day without having to rely on others.
Count your joys instead of woes. Count your friends instead of foes.
– Irish Proverb
A few weeks ago, I had a chance to meet new people from many different backgrounds.
Got into talking to one of the girls.
I’ve never met anyone who constantly complains about, literally, everything!
I read about people like that.
Luckily, none of my close friends or family is a moaner.
It was so shocking and exhausting.
Not only because she was the loudest chatterbox, she just complained non-stop.
I almost stopped her and suggested:
Hey, why don’t you talk about some really nice stuff your kids did for the next 10 minutes?
Of course, I kept my mouth shut.
But it was so tempting.
Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.
– Denis Waitley
Of all three things, gratitude made it possible for me to live a life of inner peace.
It’s truly gratifying.
I cannot recommend highly enough to practice writing down a daily gratitude list.
Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.
– Mahatma Gandhi
